The importance of arnica montana as a medicinal plant was discovered in the 16th century. Villagers used arnica to treat muscular pain and contusions. Today, arnica is used internally in homeopathic doses to treat raumatic shock - afteran injury for example. Externally, a topical preparation of arnica cream is used to treat bruises and sprains (inury without open wounds). Hypericum is added to the cream because it is a nerve remedy used in the treatment of trauma to the nerves as well as the fingers, toes and nails. The last ingredient is symphytum that acts on joints and bones and is used to relieve inury to the sinews and tendons.
